PARADE KICKS OFF CHRISTMAS BY THE SEA FESTIVAL
Full Description:
The sky was blue, but everywhere you looked, red and green prevailed Saturday as onlookers lined Oak Island Drive to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season as the Christmas by the Sea parade passed by. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts students of On My Toes dance school, Knights of Columbus of Sacred Heart, Oak Island Beach Preservation Society and other local organizations joined the parade’s stars, Santa and Mrs. Claus, on a festive jaunt down the island’s main drag.
The parade is the traditional kick-off of the Southport-Oak Island Christmas by the Sea Festival, which continues this weekend in Southport with the Historical Society’s Christmas Tour of Homes, 2 to 7 p.m., Saturday, December 9, followed by the Holiday Boat Flotilla beginning around 7 p.m. at the waterfront. Also on Saturday, South, North and West Brunswick choirs will perform at Southport Community Building from 3 to 6 p.m.
Brunswick Concert Band and Big Band present their holiday program at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 14, at N.C. Baptist Assembly at For Caswell’s Hatch Auditorium.
